Alpha Chi Omega Chapter Scholarships

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was the first Greek-lettered organization founded by black college women on January 15, 1908, at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of service to all mankind.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated supports Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and their contributions to the sorority and society. The Alpha Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated will award its biennial Helen Adams Rouce Scholarship to high school seniors, in the Tulsa Metropolitan area who will attend an HBCU through 2025.

The Helen Adams Rouce Scholarship Awards consists of three (3) scholarships, (1st) $5,000, (2nd) $3,000 and (3rd) $2,000.

Eligibility
The applicant must:

Be a female senior attending a Tulsa, or metro area high school.
Have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Plan to attend an HBCU (historically black college or university).
Provide proof of financial need.

Instructions
Submit a complete application along with the following documents:

A biographical sketch, including an essay entitled “The Importance of Pursuing an Education” (maximum of 2 pages typed, double spaced, Times Roman font, size 12, MLA format)
A resume that includes extra-curricular activities, community service, high school honors, organizations, and offices held.
A copy of ACT or SAT scores.
An official seven semester high school transcript in a sealed envelope from the registrar’s office.
Three letters of recommendation are requested. One letter must be from a teacher or counselor at your school. Family members are not eligible to write letters of recommendation.
A personal photo attached to the upper right-hand corner of the application.
