Who is Alberta G. Jones?

Alberta began life’s journey on March 15, 1942, in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Alberta completed life’s journey on Monday, January 31, 2022, with her daughter Felicia Jones-Senter by her side.

“Bert” as she was affectionately called graduated from HBCU Langston University with a B.S. in Home Economic and a Master's in Education from NSU. While attending Langston, Alberta became a member of the Alpha Zeta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in December of 1964. After graduation, she joined the Alpha Chi Omega chapter and held varies offices, including the office of president, three different times. Alberta was the 24th Mid-Western Regional Director and was elected to serve from 1994 - 1998. She was a life member and Golden Soror.  Soror Alberta was the first MW Regional Director to host a conference with over 500 registered Sorors.

Alberta married her high school sweetheart, Charles who she affectionally called her boyfriend and the two were happily married for 47 years. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Soror Felicia Aileen and Felipe Algene, five grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Alberta was a Teacher, Dean of Students, Speech Instructor, Assistant Principal, Counselor and Assistant Director for Central High School, and Tulsa Technology Center where she retired in 2003. She could create anything, and she taught her students etiquette and how to have the perfect wedding, which included mock weddings. Her impact on the lives of students is still felt today.

She was a busy woman and a member of several professional, civic and community organizations: Member at Greater Union Baptist Church (for over 50 years), Phi Delta Kappa, OK Association of Counseling & Development, Langston University Alumni Association, Daughters of the Imperial Court, Eastern Star, Oklahoma Jurisdiction, and OAMCTE. Alberta was a breast cancer survivor.  During her recovery, she noticed there was not a local support group for African American women, so she founded Soulful Survivors. Soulful Survivors, Inc. is a local support group for African American women who have breast cancer or who have survived breast cancer.

As stated, earlier Alberta completed her life’s journey on Monday, January 31, 2022. Amid life, she stood face to face with death and left us to take the place God had prepared for her. Forever cherishing her memory: loving daughter Soror Felicia “Angel” Jones-Senter, a brother, a sister-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends, among them several Special Friends, she called Bert's Buddies.
